Okay I’m going to say it… this is my favourite book this year! Potentially even this decade. The writing style was perfectly dark and twisty and it consumed every part of me. A modern twist of a dark folk lore, with all this gruesome and delicate edges. I didn’t want to put it down.
I normally find stories that only tell you just enough entirely frustrating. But something about this drew me in. There were things left unsaid and gaps for the reader to fill in and it worked perfectly with the nature of the story.
Dark, forbidden magic dripped off each page with small white flowers taking route in my mind. The story left a bread crumb trail that was heartbreakingly beautiful to read and had me stopping at night because I was afraid of what was in the darkness. I didn’t see the twists and turns coming and I feel I may reread this tale a few times over the next few years.
I have no bad things to say. This is all.
Happy Reading
