The Croaking Raven by Guy Hale

A narrative that tells of the lengths one man will go to for revenge when mixed with an obsession of the bard… what could possibly go wrong?

What I found really interesting was being told the story from not only the perspective of the killer but also the police trying to solve the case. It’s not something I’ve ever read before and it did take me a while to get on board with it. I’m a creature of habit! To start with I struggled to understand Oliver’s point of view and just saw him as a mad man I did not much care for. But as the plot unfolded I could see the dark humour within the madness as it actually became rather intriguing. I wanted to see what he did next.

My favourite part however, had very little to do with the story. It was the relationship between Fred and Toby. Fred gave me Gene Hunt vibes from Life on Mars and I was there for it!

The biggest issue I had however was PERSONALLY I am not a fan of books that don’t end. While it is part of a series I like a book to have more of a conclusion that The Croaking Raven gave me… however, it does mean I will be needing to pick up book two to find out what happens next.

Overall, this was a good book with some interesting characters and narratives. While the ending wasn’t to my liking style while, I would recommend it if you are a fan of dark humoured tales.

Happy Reading
